No, I would not like fries with that

A quote from Andy Bellass of Mother that nicely sums up why I love Amazon:

"I look at those books and those CDs and think, you know what? I would want to read and buy those - and usually I do. Isn't that the most sophisticated marketing out there? It's a brand you have a relationship with."

"But at McDonalds you buy a Big Mac and they say, would you like a large fries, and you think, if I wanted large fries I would have asked for it."

"But here is Amazon doing exactly the same thing - they're trying to get you to buy more products from their store. But they're doing it by understanding exactly what you want."

No one's perfect (not even Amazon)

$10.05 to $12.36? So much for Super Savings. This is what happens when business people set the pricing rules and programmers get stuck implementing them.

The End of the Beginning of the End

Posted by Ben Jackson Fri, 26 Aug 2005 02:33:26 GMT

So, this is it. My first-ever real life blog post. Quiet on the set.

I'm at a bit of a loss.

I guess I should start by saying that if you're reading this, thanks. I promise it will look better soon. I can only hope that you find my writing engaging enough to make up the difference.

As for the content, I'm going to try and go for quality over quantity. I'll try not to link every single stupid thing that crosses my path. One post every day or two seems like a reasonable goal. I ain't promising nothing, of course. If nothing else it will get my lazy ass back into the habit of writing semi-regularly.

To my family, may this at least sort of make up for my absence in Philly. I love all of you and wish you the best.

What are you waiting for? Grab the RSS feed and add it to your newsreader (mac, windows).

Test Post

Posted by Ben Jackson Wed, 17 Aug 2005 21:06:53 GMT

This is a test. Yes, it's just a test. No need to freak out and start running around the room with your hands in the air, nor cower under your desk with your fingers locked behind your neck. Relax. Stay calm. It will all be ok. I promise.
